Women Development Program

“Women Development Program” a project for young Christian girls and women. This project provides sewing/textile designing and beautician courses at free of cost. This project helps Christian women and girls become self-employed or start their own businesses at small levels instead of working as domestic workers or house cleaners.

The project's mission is to end persecution and violence against Christian women and girls through providing professional skills.

Women Development Program was started on June 13, 2011. On June 20, 2011 we organized an opening ceremony of this project. Community members, stakeholders, pastors from different Churches, project staff and project beneficiaries joined this ceremony. Everyone was so exultant for starting this project since it is a great step toward development of Christian women.

6 months report (June 2011 - November 2011):
According to our target this project will enroll 90 beneficiaries in 6 sessions. Each session will provide 6 months course to 15 beneficiaries. In first session of this project we enrolled 15 beneficiaries; 10 in sewing section and 5 in section. Their course was started on June 13, 2011.  After two months of this project, one project beneficiary dropped herself due to wedding arrangement.

What difference we have made in last 6 months?
Our major achievement in last six months is that we have saved 14 vulnerable Christian women from being domestic workers. 4 young girls and 1 married women that were working in non-Christians’ houses; we pulled them and enrolled in our project.
We provided all necessary equipment to both sewing and beautician sections. The first 14 project beneficiaries almost completed their short courses under the supervision of qualified and experienced instructors.

» In the sewing section now girls/woman can stitch Shalwar Qameez (national dress of Pakistan); some girls can also stitch frocks and A-line shirts. Frocks and A-line shirts are the latest fashion here in Pakistan. We are pleased to write that 3 girls from sewing section have started earning for their families. As they have started stitching women dresses and began earning.

» In the beautician section students have learnt self-woman make-up, bridal make-up, and haircut, facial and other basic subjects of beautician course. Same here, 2 girls from beautician section are now dealing their personal customers in their homes. And they have started earning for their families.

Objectives we have achieved in last six months:

» Pulled down the risk of persecution against 14 Christian women.

» Saved 14 Christian women from being domestic workers.

» Equipped/equipping first 14 beneficiaries with sewing and beautician skills.

What expected changes we made in these first six months of the project?

» At present 5 project beneficiaries have immediately started earning through sewing and beautician work. While they are still under training.

» Trained 14 poor and vulnerable Christian women/domestic workers in sewing and beautician field. 

» Apart from these professional trainings we have arranged some special classes for these women. Where these women were mobilized to take a good care for their children and families and save them from drug addiction and drug dealings. A number of youngsters and children from Christian families are falling in false activities, drug addiction and drug dealings.
